Sundyne Pumps Case Study

£500 OF CAPITAL SPEND SAVED ABOUT £500,000 P.A.

Four Sundyne (high head low flow) machines arranged in parallel in a reactor recirculation system suffered low mean time between failures (MTBF) due to poor seal performance.

Performance monitoring was introduced (e.g. temperature, pressure and flow rates) and the data analysed.

This revealed that the pumps were suffering from thermal shock due to the operating regime which manifested itself first by leaking seals.

Solving this problem involved about £500 of capital spend to monitor and control the seal cooling flow and temperature. This saved the operator about £500,000 per annum!
